What Are Vape Batteries?
September 17, 2026
Every vape, whatever else it looks like, runs on a small rechargeable or single-use lithium battery. It's the one component shared across all three device shapes covered in our guide to every type of e-cigarette, just packaged differently depending on whether it's sealed inside a disposable, built into a pod system, or sitting in refillable hardware.
What mAh actually measures
Battery capacity is measured in milliamp-hours (mAh), the same unit used for phone batteries, and it roughly tracks with how long a device lasts between charges, or how long a sealed disposable's battery lasts before the device is depleted for good. The MR.FOG 45K Switch Pod's main battery is rated at 1,400 mAh, with the pod itself carrying a smaller 300 mAh backup so it can fire on its own when needed. The Vaporesso XROS 5 Mini runs a 1,500 mAh internal battery with 2A USB-C fast charging. A larger mAh rating generally supports more puffs per charge, all else equal, but the coil's power draw and how heavily you use the device both affect real-world battery life just as much as the raw number.
Built-in vs. swappable
A disposable's battery is sealed inside and never removed, calibrated to run out around the same time as the e-liquid. A pre-filled pod system's battery is rechargeable and reused across many pods, so it's built to a higher cycle count than a disposable's one-time battery needs to be. Refillable hardware works the same way, a rechargeable internal battery you keep charging and reusing indefinitely, alongside whatever coils and e-liquid you cycle through it.
Charging and storage safety
Use the cable that came with the device, or a comparable USB-C cable, rather than an unfamiliar fast-charger, and avoid leaving any device charging unattended for extended periods. Keep devices out of direct sun and hot cars; heat degrades battery performance faster than normal use does, and a hot car specifically can push a sealed device well past the temperature range it was designed for. These are the same practical precautions that apply to any small rechargeable lithium battery, not something unique to vaping devices.
Where this category actually stands on our site
Unlike Disposable, E-Juices, or Hardware, Batteries doesn't have real standalone listings live on this site yet, it's a newer category we're still bringing brands into, the same way Hardware itself started with a single real listing before growing. If you need a battery today, it comes built into whatever device you buy, disposable, pod, or hardware, rather than as a separate purchase. Check Batteries directly for the current real listings, since that changes as new brands come online, and see Hardware for the one real device on this site with a battery you'd actually interact with directly.
Common Questions
Does this site sell standalone replacement vape batteries?
Not yet as a fully stocked category, Batteries is newer and thinner than our other categories right now. A battery comes built into whichever disposable, pod, or hardware device you buy in the meantime. Check the Batteries category directly for current real listings.
What does mAh mean on a vape battery?
Milliamp-hours, a measure of battery capacity, the same unit phone batteries use. A higher mAh rating generally supports more puffs per charge, though actual battery life also depends on the coil's power draw and how heavily the device is used.
Is it safe to charge a vape device overnight?
It's safer not to leave any rechargeable lithium battery charging unattended for extended periods. Use the cable that came with the device and avoid unfamiliar fast-chargers.
Can a disposable vape's battery be recharged?
Some higher-capacity disposables include a USB-C port to top up the battery while e-liquid remains, but this doesn't refill the e-liquid itself, and the device is finished once that's empty regardless of remaining charge.
