What Is a Disposable Vape?

A disposable vape is a fully sealed, pre-charged, pre-filled device you use until it's empty, then throw away. There's no battery to charge before first use in most models, no e-liquid to add, and no coil to install. It's the simplest of the device types covered in our full breakdown of every type we carry, and it's also the largest single category on this site.

"Disposable" describes the format, not the quality, plenty of real engineering goes into fitting a battery, coil, and e-liquid reservoir into a shape that's meant to be used once and discarded, calibrated so all three run out at close to the same time. It's the format most people mean when they picture a modern e-cigarette, even though the underlying heating principle is identical to every other device type on this site.

Strip the shell off a disposable and you'll find the same three components every vape has: a small lithium battery, a coil, and a reservoir of e-liquid, sized and sealed to last roughly as long as each other. The manufacturer calibrates all three together so the device runs out of e-liquid and battery at close to the same time, rather than leaving you with a dead reservoir and a battery that still has charge, or vice versa.

Puff count is the headline spec on every listing, and it varies enormously by model. A higher number generally means a larger e-liquid reservoir and battery packed into the same device, not a different technology, and real examples from this catalog span a wide range:

Disposables aren't the oldest vaping format, they're closer to the newest. Early e-cigarettes were cigarette-shaped "cig-a-likes" with weak batteries and small refillable cartridges, and the years after that were dominated by bulkier refillable tanks and mods aimed at enthusiasts willing to learn coil-building and wattage settings. A fully sealed, pre-filled disposable simplified all of that away: once a factory can manufacture a sealed unit cheaply and consistently, there's very little reason for most buyers to deal with anything more complicated, and that manufacturing scale is a large part of why this format now makes up the biggest single category on this site. This is a real point of confusion worth clearing up. A growing number of higher-capacity disposables include a USB-C port so you can recharge the battery once it runs low but e-liquid remains, stretching the device's usable life closer to its full puff-count rating. That is charging, not refilling. Once the e-liquid reservoir itself is empty, the device is finished regardless of how much battery charge is left, since there's no fill port and no way to add more liquid to a sealed reservoir.

Puff count itself is an estimate, not a guarantee. Manufacturers test it using a standard puff duration and volume in a lab, not from how any specific person actually draws on the device. A shorter, lighter puff stretches a device further than its rated number; a longer, heavier puff on a wider airflow setting uses it up faster. Two people with the same 60,000-puff device can get genuinely different real-world results without either device being faulty.

Every disposable sold legally in Canada is capped at 20 mg/mL nicotine, under Health Canada's Nicotine Concentration in Vaping Products Regulations. Nicotine itself is addictive, and vaping products aren't risk-free. Health Canada is explicit that they're intended for adults who already use tobacco or nicotine products, not a starter habit, and the minimum legal purchase age is set by your province: 18 in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec, 19 in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Nova Scotia and other provinces we ship to. Packaging carries its own separate requirements under Canada's Vaping Products Labelling and Packaging Regulations: child-resistant containers for any nicotine concentration of 0.1 mg/mL or higher, a standardized nicotine-addiction warning, a toxicity and first-aid statement, and a full ingredient list, regardless of nicotine content. None of this is optional branding, it's a legal minimum every disposable sold here is expected to meet before it reaches the catalog at all.

Flavour itself is under active regulatory attention too. Health Canada has signalled it's moving to further restrict how vaping flavours can be promoted, with public comment on tighter rules expected in late 2026. Remove any plug or sticker covering the mouthpiece, then inhale. Most disposables fire automatically on the draw, with no button. When flavour and vapor noticeably weaken, the device is near the end of its rated puff count regardless of what any battery indicator shows. There's no coil to replace and no reservoir to refill, so at that point the device is genuinely finished. A disposable's battery is a small lithium cell, and lithium batteries are classified as dangerous goods by Transport Canada, which is a real, practical reason disposables ship by ground within Canada rather than by air or across borders. It's also why the same basic precautions apply here as to any lithium battery: don't puncture or crush a used device, keep it away from extreme heat, and dispose of it as e-waste rather than in household trash where your local program supports that, rather than treating it as ordinary garbage once it's empty.

Every device type in this catalog runs on the same three-part design, a battery, a coil, and a reservoir, and a disposable's advantage is that all three are sealed and matched at the factory so you never have to think about them separately. That convenience is also its ceiling: you can't swap a worn coil for a fresh one, can't top up with a different flavour, and can't extend the device past its rated puff count once the e-liquid is gone. A pod system keeps most of that simplicity while reusing the most expensive single part, the battery, across many refills instead of discarding it every time.

Each device also becomes e-waste once it's finished, batteries and all, which is a real consideration if you're going through several a month rather than one occasionally. That's not a reason to avoid disposables, it's simply part of what you're weighing against the convenience, the same way a pod system or refillable hardware weighs less waste against more setup.

The trade-off for all that simplicity is that a disposable is genuinely disposable, and if you're going through several a month, the ongoing cost and the number of devices you're replacing both add up. A pre-filled pod system keeps the same no-refill simplicity but reuses one battery across many pods, which is worth knowing about before assuming disposable is the only simple option. Refillable hardware goes further still, trading away the no-setup convenience entirely for control over strength, flavour brand, and draw style that a sealed device can't offer.

There's also no adjusting a disposable once it's made. The draw resistance, the flavour, the nicotine strength, all of it is fixed at the factory, which is exactly the appeal for someone who wants to open a package and go, and exactly the limitation for someone who wants to fine-tune any part of the experience.
